A previous leak about the Snapdragon 888 successor suggested a 4nm process, as well as other features, although it remained unclear which company would mass-produce the next-generation node. Several tipsters pointed out that Lenovo mentioned TSMC as Qualcomm's chip supplier, but two of those tipsters believe Samsung will provide the technology to help produce not only the next-generation Snapdragon 895 but also its own Exynos 2200.

Apple was earlier said to have secured the first 4nm chip supply, therefore Qualcomm may not have an option to go with TSMC. According to MauriQHD, who has a good track record in recent months, his source ‘Hades' has told him that both the Snapdragon 895 and the Exynos 2200 will be manufactured via Samsung's 4nm process. It's obvious that Samsung's advanced node would be deployed in the Exynos 2200, but what may motivate Qualcomm to stick with Samsung?

It was previously reported that Samsung would mass-produce the next-generation Snapdragon X65 5G modem using their 4nm technology, implying that the Snapdragon 895 will also be manufactured on the same node. Keep in mind that Qualcomm reportedly paid Samsung $850 million to mass-produce the Snapdragon 888, indicating that the two companies may have reached an agreement for the time being.

Despite the Taiwanese manufacturer's superior nodes, TSMC may not have been a cost-effective choice for the San Diego company. Another reason could be because TSMC's 4nm capacity is already sold out, with Apple securing the initial supply for not only the future node but also the 3nm process, so Qualcomm will have to rely on Samsung once more.

Will Samsung's 4nm technology have an impact on the performance and power efficiency of the Snapdragon 895 and Exynos 2200? We'll have to wait and see after detailed thermals and other testing, so stay tuned for further information.
