Many of us will recall being first introduced to Minecraft by Microsoft when it announced that it would pay $2.5bn (PS1.5bn) for the company behind the most-selling videogame.



For many years a dedicated community has been working on intricate cyberspace-based marvels in Minecraft for many years.



Here are seven of the top:



Game of Thrones



Mapmakers WesterosCraft are on a mission to recreate the world imagined by George RR Martin in the Game of Thrones books and TV series. The aim is to provide an opportunity for roleplaying in the fantasy world.



A working 16-bit computer



A Minecraft gamer with the username ohmganesha created a fully functional 16-bit computer in only two weeks. The virtual machine has 32 bytes of RAM (random-access memory) and 256 bytes of ROM (read-only memory).



This Cathedral



Patrix, the edifice's architect He said it took him just two nights to construct. He claimed that he'd never been inside the cathedral in person.



A hard drive that functions



Cody Littley's hard drive can hold a single kilobyte of data, which may seem unimpressive when compared with ordinary discs until you consider that Mr Littley - an undergraduate in computer science in Texas built it piece-by piece.



An entire city

All of Denmark



To help children learn, the Danish government decided to map the entire country using Minecraft. However the project was later destroyed, with parts of the map blown up using virtual "dynamite".
