Methods to Troubleshoot QuickBooks Error 111

3 min read

QuickBooks Error 111 can occur when there is an issue with the company file or the QuickBooks software itself. Here are some methods that you can try to troubleshoot the QuickBooks error 111.

1.      Update the QuickBooks

  • Open QuickBooks and go to the Help menu.
  • Select "Update QuickBooks Desktop."
  • In the Update QuickBooks window, click on the "Update Now"
  • Check the boxes for the updates you want to download and click "Get Updates."
  • Wait for the updates to download and install. This may take some time depending on the size of the update and your internet connection.
  • Once the updates are installed, restart QuickBooks to complete the process.

2.      Rename the .ND and .TLG files

The .ND and .TLG files are associated with QuickBooks company files and contain important data. It is not recommended to rename or delete these files unless you are experiencing specific issues with your QuickBooks software.

However, if you still need to rename these files, you can follow these steps:

  • Close QuickBooks and make sure no one else is using the company file.
  • Open the folder containing the company file and locate the .ND and .TLG files. These files have the same name as the company file but with different extensions.
  • Right-click on each file and select "Rename".
  • Change the file extension from .ND to .ND.old and from .TLG to .TLG.old.
  • Press Enter to save the new file names.

3.      Make use of the Rebuild Data utility

The Rebuild Data utility is a tool that can be used to repair or rebuild corrupted or damaged data in various software applications. Here are some possible scenarios where the Rebuild Data utility can be useful:

  • In QuickBooks: If you're experiencing issues with your QuickBooks company file, such as error messages, missing data, or other problems, the Rebuild Data utility can help. To use this tool, open QuickBooks and select File > Utilities > Rebuild Data. QuickBooks will then analyze and repair the data in your company file.
  • In Outlook: If you're having trouble with your Outlook data file, such as missing emails, corrupt attachments, or other issues, the Rebuild Data utility can help. To use this tool, close Outlook and navigate to the SCANPST.EXE file on your computer (this file is usually located in the Program Files folder). Double-click the file to open it, and then select your Outlook data file (.pst or .ost). Click the Start button to begin the repair process.

In Photoshop: If you're having trouble with your Photoshop preferences or settings, the Rebuild Data utility can help. To use this tool, open Photoshop and hold down the Ctrl + Alt + Shift keys while the program is launching. A dialog box will appear asking if you want to delete the Photoshop settings file. Click "Yes" to rebuild the preferences file.
