Kids and teenagers today are always on the internet and connected devices. Children can benefit hugely by learning about the vulnerabilities, the do’s and don’ts on the internet, and understanding the basic technologies of secure communications, encryption, ethical hacking, and cyber-security. Many children across the world are learning these technologies to have a more holistic understanding of the internet, good behaviour and bad behaviour, and to especially be aware of the vulnerabilities of hacking.

In our ethical hacking course for juniors, we cover a wide-range of basics and advanced topics for children to provide the most comprehensive knowledge in these subjects. For example, we start with covering the basics of computer networks, various communication protocols explained in with animations, basics of ip address, mac address and more. We then move onto the basics of encryption - how encryption used to happen in the olden age, new modern encryption algorithms such as RSA explained very simply for teenagers to understand and relate to. Students make their own versions of 16 bit hashing and symmetric and asymmetric encryption algorithms with public-private keys to build strong foundational knowledge in encryption methods. We move on to Kali Linux with different virtual machines and get into the shoes of how hackers think and build great awareness of various types of vulnerabilities in websites, independent software, and connected devices. Refer our Ethical Hacking Course for Kids & Teenagers to check the complete detailed curriculum.

We are proud to say that we taught many kids the basics of ethical hacking and they’ve successfully built an extraordinary amount of awareness around this topic. For example, one of the students went on to learn more about encryption methods such as elliptic-curve and has done a beautiful project on how nature encrypts its information in flowers and plants. Some of the students were keen to pick electromagnetic applications to data transfers and securing such issues with solutions such as faraday cages. Students also learn the basics of computational thinking in this course with binary trees, graphs, and programming basic techniques such as self-replication in Python. On the overall, children at the end of this course are significantly aware of the vulnerabilities even in their cars and other hardware connected devices. They understand the potential of something going wrong or a hacker taking advantage of certain technologies like Bluetooth.

While children today are all learning various programming languages and are quite aware of technologies from a consumerism perspective, it is important for them to understand what it means in terms of vulnerabilities being opened. The course is not for kids who are too young, it is mainly for junior teenagers starting from 13-14 years of age with good basic programming knowledge in one programming language. This enables them to write the code for basic programs and anti-viruses in the programming language that they’re comfortable with and in turn also become strong in that particular programming language.

Also, another important aspect of this course is that since half the course touches Linux, it directly helps the students to learn this beautiful operating system, working with consoles, and the Linux application structure. Children also get introduced to the basics of Linux commands such as vi editor, grep, su, cat, and more.  Finally, the students spend understanding the architecture of anti-virus programs and early virus detection mechanisms.

We are confident that this course is a holistic must attend course for all students more than 13-14 years old. This will help connect the dots with all other computer-science learnings that they’re studying in terms of communications, robotics, hardware and software, website development, game development, and mobile applications. Also, this course specifically provides a very different tangential knowledge in computer-science for kids, which indirectly helps them to integrate and assimilate all knowledge together.
