A COMPREHENSIVE GUIDE TO VAPE COILS

A COMPREHENSIVE GUIDE TO VAPE COILS
4 min read

When you first start vaping, there is a lot of vocabulary to learn, which can be incredibly perplexing because there are sometimes multiple words for the same thing. In addition, each product has numerous variations, from e-liquids to tanks to batteries - here, we will look at the core of your vape - the coil.

WHAT EXACTLY IS A VAPE COIL?

The coil is one of the most critical components of your elf bar vape; it heats the e-liquid in your tank and converts it into the vapor you inhale. How does it achieve this?

  • When you fill up your clearomiser, the wicking material (the bit of cotton visible within the metal casing) absorbs the liquid in the tank.
  • The wire in the coil (the small spiral of metal visible inside the wicking material) is heated by the battery, which causes the liquid in your wick to vaporize.
  • The vapor flows up the chimney of your vaporizer and into your mouth or lungs when you pull on the drip tip.

ISN'T IT RATHER SIMPLE?

Depending on the function of the vaporizer, the metal element of your coil can be produced from a variety of metal wires kinds. But most of the time, it is just stainless steel wire. Steel is an excellent conductor, but it is also heat resistant so that it won't burn out as soon as other metals.

WHAT EXACTLY IS AN ATOMISER HEAD?

This is a trick question because, as previously stated, a few vaping words refer to the same thing. Atomiser heads are the same as coils in that they are the changeable part of the tank that converts e-liquid into vapor.

ARE THERE VARIOUS TYPES OF COILS?

Yes. Coils differ between brands and models, and you can also get vape kits with different coils. Most standard elf bar vapes are single-coil, but you can also get dual-coil, quad-coil, etc. The more coils you have, the more battery power you need to keep them running. This is more of a "thing" for Sub-Ohm vapers who are into coil building, though, so generally speaking, changing a coil is quite straightforward, and you will only need one. Sub Ohm vaping is best suited to DTL (direct to lung) vaping, where you avoid getting any vapor in your mouth on the inhale and instead get the flavor on the exhale.

Several materials are utilized; not all brands will have both, but there are two types: normal wire coils and ceramic coils. The biggest distinction between the two is longevity: the ceramic layer protects the wire while acting as extra wicking material, so a ceramic coil can occasionally outlast a conventional wire coil.

KNOWING YOUR COIL'S BRAND/MODEL

This is critical because using the incorrect coil for your tank is akin to trying to fit a square peg into a circle hole. Even within a brand, the coil you require will vary greatly depending on the device you own. Vape starter kits include your first coil (sometimes two) to get you started, so check the box to see which one you need and order the same one again for the best vaping experience.

WHEN SHOULD I REPLACE THE COIL?

When you know, you know - and when it is time to change a coil, you know. You will notice less vapor production, eventually accompanied by a "burnt toast" flavor (about as pleasant as it sounds). How long your coil will last is similar to asking how long a piece of string will last - it depends on how much you use your vape, the wattage, and the juice you use, but the general range is one to two weeks.
