The three hottest seats on the New York Giants

The three hottest seats on the New York Giants
3 min read

Anyway, things are finally improving in North Jersey, for the green team. The New York Giants shocked the world by reaching the knockout stages in 2022, but some on the team should still be shaken.

1. Brian Daboll's son

Brian Daboll is AP 2022 Coach of the Year. He's fine. His children, not so much. With no official announcement and few details, Daboll recently added his son Christian to the staff as an assistant offensive.

Coaches hiring their sons are nothing new to the NFL. Before joining the 49ers, Kyle Shanahan worked for his father Mike in Washington. Steve Belichick was the defense coach for his father on the Patriots, and Andy Reid's two sons have worked on his team.

Christian works as a student coach for Penn State, and without social media, his entry-level posts might not be scrutinized. But nepotism is a sensitive issue for a league that is constantly criticized for its minority recruiting practices. If the team doesn't win, Christian Daboll could have a temper tantrum in New York.

2. Each receiver is wide in the list

The giant wide receiver couldn't catch a cold last season. Only six teams have come through with fewer yards and only five have thrown fewer points in 2022. The team won't have Kenny Golladay kicking around in 2023 - he'll be out - but that's not much to do. excitement at WR.

Darius Slayton is a free agent. He led the team with 724 receipts last year but only had two touches. Richie James and Isaiah Hodgins each have four catches, but James is also a free agent.

Things might have been different if the team hadn't lost Sterling Shepard and Wan'dale Robinson to ACL injuries, but of the two, only Robinson has a contract until 2023. Hodgins, Robinson and Collin Johnson are the only ones. signed for 2023. If the team doesn't step up in 2023, any of them could find themselves on their way out.

3. QB Daniel Jones

“Danny Dimes” is about to make a lot of money. After four years of harsh criticism, Jones could sign a $40 million deal with the Giants. If he does, the real criticism will begin.

Jones' 2022 numbers are good, not great. His 3,205 yards of passing is a career high but just 87 yards ahead of Houston's Davis Mills and 15th in the league.

Since commencing in 2018, Patrick Mahomes has not thrown less than 4,000 meters in a season. Josh Allen hasn't thrown under 4,000 yards since 2019 and Matthew Stafford has only had one full season with under 4,000 yards in 14 seasons. Once Jones gets paid like these guys, the seats will only get hotter.
