After the loss of my grandmother's dog right before the holidays, I decided to start hunting for a new puppy. I was able to reduce my options down by knowing that she preferred little terriers like Westies and Jack Russells. My grandmother is in her late seventies, so the dog had to be a little breed that wouldn't put too much strain on her or drag her around the block on walks. In a recent documentary about rare dog breeds, I was pleasantly delighted to learn about the Cockapoo. These adorable and friendly puppies are the result of crossing a Poodle with an American Cocker Spaniel. I had no idea this breed even existed until I learned that it had been in the United States since the 1960s. It got me wondering whether there are any other bizarre breeds out there that I'm just totally ignorant of. Interestingly, the American Kennel Club does not recognise the Cockapoo as a legitimate breed because of the wide variation in appearance and personality among Cockapoo puppies. Don't believe everything you read about pure breeds or pedigrees. The breeder wants nothing more than to part you with your cash.

The fact that Cockapoos are simple to train was a major factor in my decision to give one as a gift to my grandma. In fact, I'd argue they're even simpler to teach than the terriers she's used to, which may be stubborn about following even the simplest of instructions. I decided on a Cockapoo since they are friendly and good with children, another reason I decided to get a puppy. Due to the frequent visits from her grandchildren, it was crucial that they be naturally warm and caring towards one another. I needed to find a cockapoo puppy that will do well when left alone with the kids.

I googled around for a nearby breeder and paid them a visit. They were so cute that I almost bought one for my grandma if not for myself. I decided on a cream-colored puppy with floppy ears that I was hoping my grandmother would adore. That was expected, therefore I was not let down. The puppy seemed to have the same amount of affection for her as she did. And after more than a month with it, she still adores it. Even the grandchildren appear to be enjoying it, as she is receiving many more visitors than usual. Perhaps they are all curious about Malcolm, the dog with the odd appearance.

If you have kids at home, a cockapoo puppy would make a fantastic gift. My grandma loves her new Cockapoo puppy, which I got for her as a gift.
