The increasing number of deaths due to an increase in the prevalence of chronic diseases, epidemic/pandemic outbreaks, accidents, self-harm or unintentional injuries, increased crime rates, and natural disasters are some of the major factors for the sudden growth of the mortuary bags market globally.

According to a research report by Arizton, the mortuary bags market is projected to be valued at $496 million by 2027, growing at an annual growth rate of over 4% from 2022 to 2027. The growing acceptance of mortuary bags, advancements in body bags, and rising demand for forensic science are all driving market demand. With the death toll from COVID-19 rising, several hospitals faced a severe shortage of mortuary bags. Several companies increased their production capacity and produced large quantities of mortuary bags as per the government's instructions. For example, Barber Medical, which has a contract with the NHS for mortuary supplies, increased the availability of polythene bags, known as body pouch bags. This high demand for mortuary bags aided the global market's expansion.

Talking about geography, Europe dominated the global mortuary bag market in 2021, followed by North America, due to factors such as an aging population and the adoption of sedentary lifestyle changes, leading to a high number of deaths. It is projected that the US is expected to grow at an annual growth rate of over 4.7% from 2022 to 2027.

MopecExtra Packaging, and Tianjin Guyufan Biological Technology are some of the major players in the mortuary bag industry.
