Table salt

One of the first actions we can take to try to remove red wine stains is  to use table salt . Some people advise using a little salt directly on the stain, although it must be recognized that common salt is not very useful, although it will help us absorb  excess liquid  and prevent it from spreading through the fabric.

Be that as it may, it is advisable not to leave the salt on the stain for too long, since this could be counterproductive and set the wine stain even more.

White wine

Here the famous phrase Wine stains are removed with wine! makes its full sense. We can  apply white wine to the area stained  with the red wine, since the tannins of the former help to neutralize the tincture caused by the tannins of the red wine.

We can moisten a clean cloth or sponge with white wine and give small touches on the dirty area. This will prevent the stain from spreading. Subsequently, the white wine is allowed to act for a few minutes and we wash the garment with soap and water.

Sodium bicarbonate

We can also complement the aforementioned white wine with baking soda . To do this, once the stained area has been soaked with white wine and after letting it rest, we apply a  paste made from bicarbonate and water on top of the stain . We leave it to act for a few hours with the wet paste and, later, we wash the garment.

Leche

Red wine stains are tricky to remove once they've dried, but they can still be removed. To achieve this,  we let the milk act for a while  until we see that the stain is disappearing. Once achieved, we can wash the garment as usual.

Vinegar

White vinegar has cleaning properties thanks to its  high alcohol content  that helps neutralize the color pigments of red wine stains. Combined vinegar with other products such as bicarbonate or detergent, it is ideal to achieve a more effective action.

Pour an abundant stream of white vinegar on the stain and leave it to act for 5 minutes without rubbing the stain. We put the garment in the washing machine and perform a normal wash cycle. If we wash the garment by hand, we have to pour a lot of water on the stain and never scrub.

Solution of hydrogen peroxide and ammonia

If the previous cases do not give the expected result, we can try this  more aggressive method  that is usually quite effective. To remove difficult red wine stains we have to combine 5 parts of water, 1 of hydrogen peroxide and 4 of ammonia.

We make the mixture and introduce the garment to be cleaned. We leave it to soak for a few hours and, later, rinse with plenty of water.

Hydrogen peroxide and liquid detergent

We can also try  mixing hydrogen peroxide with liquid soap, 50% each component. We apply this mixture on the stain and let it act for 1 minute. Afterwards, we clean the garment as usual.

Hydrogen peroxide is a powerful oxidizer, so it helps to remove red wine stains. Of course, you have to be careful with colored garments, since it could have the same effect on the color as with the wine stain.

Boiling water

If the fabric that has been stained belongs to the table linen, we can use boiling water. To achieve this,  bring water to a boil  in a sufficient quantity to be able to submerge the stained area of the fabric and let it act. We can also add a little liquid soap to the water to help us remove the stain particles. Once the water loses temperature, we can wash the fabric normally.

White vinegar and liquid detergent

White vinegar has cleansing and bleaching properties. Using it with a little liquid detergent helps to  neutralize the pigments of the red wine . To speed up this chemical process we can heat the mixture to make it more effective. After letting this combination act directly on the stain for a few minutes, we can go on to wash the fabric as usual.

Bleach

It is a product that is often used at home and in industrial terms thanks to its great  cleaning and disinfection capacity . As with hydrogen peroxide, it produces an  oxidative effect  on stains.

It should be noted that bleach should be used as a last resort and  whenever the garment is white , since it is an aggressive product and could fade the garment. To be more sure, we can apply bleach diluted in water directly on the fabric, let it act for a few minutes and then wash as usual.

Lemon

If the stain is dry, we can  soften and remove the stain,  taking advantage of the cleaning properties of lemon. To do this, we have to mix half a glass of lemon juice with half a glass of water and apply the mixture on the stain. We let act and wash later.

Commercial product as KH-7

Another effective way to remove red wine stains is to use a commercial stain remover. There are some of well-known brands that act very well on stains and have a spray format for easy application. An example of this type of product is  KH-7 Sin Manchas Oxy Effect , a powerful cleaner that is  specially formulated to remove stains that are  almost impossible to remove .

To give us an idea, this product is so effective that with a 5-minute application it can be seen that the wine stain has been completely removed from the affected garments.
